"But Yahweh demonstrates his own love for us in this: when we were still sinners Yeshua died for us." Romans 5:8
Love, the world's most powerful word. It is the very fabric of society and all that we see. With it, families grow and build the great heights of skyscrapers. Love is in more things than we think. There are many types of love, and we love different things. One thing is for sure and fundamental. We are all driven by love and we let it drive us to great things and sacrifices. We all love something that gives us passion and desire.
How do you know what we truly love? Easy, ask yourself what do I sacrifice the most to? Is it self, money, goals, dreams, to be liked by people, fear, material things, work, Yahweh, or a god of our own making? What is our greatest obsession? This is what we must ask to make sure we are not sacrificing on the wrong altar. We all want to love and be loved; we also want to give and sacrifice. It is our nature that when we have great respect and love, we want to give something to prove it.
Now fear can replace the reasoning of why we sacrifice. Instead of doing it from a place of love, we do it because of fear, and that is not a right sacrifice. A right sacrifice looks...like this.
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one"s friends." John 15:13
Sacrifice is necessary for the proof of devotion. There is sacrifice in everything that matters, and the size of the sacrifice shows how much it means to you. I was reading a book my mom bought me, and it really touched my heart. Here is one of the most profound parts:
"Is the death of the will any less painful than the death of the body? Call it figurative if it maks you comfortable but the reality the death of the will is far more traumatic than the death of the body." ~ When Heaven Weeps
This is so true. I could go on and on about how the Bible says we are to think of others above ourselves. But I don't want to make this super long, and I think our Savior is the perfect example of this.
"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me. Yet not my will, but yours be done." Luke 22:42
My mom has always said, "What god sacrifices to it’s people? There is only one, and that is Yahweh." Yahweh sacrificed his only son for a sinful world. What type of love does this? Only his type. So how much are we willing to sacrifice? We must ask ourselves this and check how we sacrifice and to whom we are sacrificing. I will make a part two, so for now, there is this beginning to chew on for food for thought..
Much Love,
Elysa
